Friendly Advise:

It's better to use MAPS or GMAPS if you're confused about the streets

Known for it's sky lantern lighting, Shifen old street is a street where there are lanes and alleys in and around the Shifen railway station area. I was wondering why the train is so slow, then I learned that it is really slow because shifen's railway is full of people and they have to warn everybody first to get out of the way to give way for the train. People fly their lanterns in the middle of the railroad too and you will be because it's the perfect spot.

It's actually nice to go there at night so that there'll be not too much people around and you will get to see the light up lantern too. On the other hand, if you want to get to see the waterfalls instead then it's best to go in the morning or while the sun is still up.

This tradition of praying through lantern is well known here in Taiwan, so as a traveler it's better to try and do it too for experience and I am not disappointed.

The colors of the lantern depends on what your prayers are mainly focused to.

Part of this, the staff will be taking your picture and video. I don't know if everybody does that but our guy was good. I liked these photos that he took.
