Many have asked and many are still wondering how immigration in Singapore works. Some travelers are also scared when facing immigration specially because Singapore is a strict country. So I wrote this blog based from my experience to give tips so that you know what to expect and be ready for it.
1. Be OBSERVANT
Seeing the line in immigration is kind of making me nervous, the longer the line would mean that they are asking too much questions before they process or grant travelers to visit Singapore. In other cases some people got off-loaded because immigration denied their papers and sent them back home. Pretty scary right? Take your worries away and prepare yourself.
2. Be PREPARED
I am the kind of person that will think ahead of what might be the worst that can happen. Like, what will I say if they ask me questions like:
-Why do you want to visit Singapore?
-Where are you staying?
-Which places do you want to visit?
-How long do you plan to stay?
-How much money do you have?
This will help you provide them answers in a calm way. Imagine how suspecious you may seem to look if you're nervous and shakey. Just be yourself and always wear a smile.
3. COMPLETE DOCUMENTS
Make sure to prepare all the documents that the officer might ask you to show based from my research of other people's experiences like money, working papers, passport, itinerary, address or hotel booking that you are planning to stay at, etc. You would'nt want to piss them off holding the line just because you were looking for your documents.
4. PASSPORT EXPIRY DATE
Officers will never let you in if your passport will expire soon or within 6 months. It would be best to show them a passport that is far from the expiry date. They might think that you dont have plan on returning so most of the time immigration wont let you in or send you back in your country.
5. Booking Address
Be sure that you know where you plan to stay especially the address. In my experience, putting the address on the immigration form that was given to us. Officers seeing the address of the place to stay or hotel for the whole trip makes them rest easy and will stop bugging you because they know you don't plan to be a homeless person wandering in Sigapore.
6. But usually or once in a while people ended up with strict officers that will be asking series of questions such as...
Do you have work in the Philippines?
Do you have enough money to travel?
Do you have somewhere to stay in?
Where are you staying?
When are you leaving?
Where are you going?
So I advise, don't just have the answers to all of these but also the documents and papers to prove your answers.
They would also ask for a show money in some cases but it is always better to be ready than not right?
Another thing is your itinerary or plane ticket, they wanted to see your actual departure date so if you're not gonna take that long in Singapore they would just let you go that easy. Also, don't forget to document the tours that you are planning to go or the ones that you have booked online so that if asked, you can show it to them. Be very sure too that your passport is far way good and not near it's expiry date, so you wont give them the benefit of the doubt and you'll be good to go.
